This variety is part of the Medalist family with 2 other 1823-dated varities. All varieties were struck on German silver planchets. This variety tends to be on a thicker planchet of 2-2.5 mm and thus weighs in the 13-13.7 gram range. All examples in this family used the same lettered edge die. Fewer than 10 examples of this variety have been documented.
There are only 3 1827-dated hand-made die counterfeit CBH varieties currently documented making this date especially in demand among collectors who are working on date sets, if not more complete collections.
This example exhibits VG/F details. However, it has fine porosity(?) on the surface, and someone intentionally indented the center of each side. Someone also put the letter F stamp in the center of the obverse. A cool piece and date which rarely comes up for sale.
