The 1916-S TD.1-TD.A Buffalo nickel counterfeit was struck on a German silver planchet. It is most easily recognized by the obverse die crack at 9 o'clock. From the handful of examples seen, the die details are not better than VG/F. This is a scarce variety, but the 'most common' amongst the 10 documented counterfeit transfer die Buffalo nickels published in the first Bad Metal book.

The example shown is relatively high grade for the variety. This is the first time I've been able to offer a die struck counterfeit Buffalo nickel on this website.
