Francis Leroy Henning produced transfer die counterfeit Jefferson nickels with years 1939, 1944, 1946, 1947, and 1953. There are 3 different 1944-dated varieties using 2 different obverse dies, 1 and 2, and 2 different reverse dies, A and B. Henning nickel's have become very popular in recent years as a result of 2 publications on the subject. Between 2024 and 2025, 1944-dated varieties have sold in the $250-700 range, the stronger prices coming from ICG-holdered examples.
This examples uses the second obverse die with the second reverse die. This reverse die does not have the notable hole in the bottom upright of the R in PLURIBUS. Instead, the field at the top-left part of Monticello has begun to deteriorate and eventually a small raised dot appears on the left side of the dome. This example is scratched and thus a lower price.
